The weather in Mumbai these days is like it’s never been ever! The temperature is soaring higher by the day. Humidity is around 45 pc. Venturing out of the house requires lot of guts. The consequences could be heatstroke, fainting and extreme dehydration. And summer began early too. From beginning of March, it has been extremely hot and it’s only getter hotter and hotter. For someone like me who is extremely sensitive to heat, it’s bad news spelling bad health. I’ve been having chilled water, biting into ice (even ate a flavoured ice-gola in a plate recently after ages!) and staying away from even lukewarm water. I rummage through my clothes for a long time before selecting what to wear to office. Even the normal cotton clothes seem thick ! If only one could wear gowns to office. Even the weather at night is not soothing making it extremely difficult to sleep.
The temperature is around 35 degree Celsius. And it touches 40 degrees also from time to time. And this is a record of sorts for Mumbai. I’ve never seen such weather since my birth here. Mumbai no longer seems to have a moderate climate. Even the house seems like a hot oven. Are we headed towards global-warming?

Shagufta, you are correct. These extreme changes are due to global warming. Last week I was in Mumbai, and I must tell you it was terrible for me. The heat along with humidity was unbearable and I felt miserable. Just because I was on my vacation, I could afford to spend lots of time in the air conditioned malls. Mumbai weather has always been quite comfortable for me compared to other parts of India. But certainly not this time, or may be from now onwards never. Pollution, concrete jungles, large scale tree cuttings, population explosion, massive energy consumptions, higher energy consuming vehicles...Sometimes I just wonder where are we really heading towards.....
Are we heading anywhere, in the first place?
But definately, we don't need the heat. This time even the winter was missing. It's funny when Mumbaikars find 16-18 degree celcius cold. And even start going around in sweaters! In fact, 18-20 degrees should be the normal temperature, according to me. Toh fir mazaa aa jaaye!
So you're a Mumbaikar?
Basically, I'm from the eastern part of India. I worked in Mumbai for almost 8 years, before leaving the country for an International career. But I still manage to spend some time in Mumbai frequently because of my house and my friends out there. May be some day I will be able to return back to Mumbai. But definitely Mumbai is not what it used to be.
yea da worst part is humidity it jus kills one, i come home only once in a fortnight but its very bad esp da humidity and da time one enters his apartment it feels like a gas chamber without ac bein turned on!
earlier i thought i was too used to weather in poona, like it gets pleasent at nite out ere wid temp dropin from 34 durin daytime to 24-25 at nite but now readin ur view i reckon it has really got bad in der.
Sushant, at present it hot everywhere. Even in Pune, where my brother is. We'd gone to Baroda last weekend and the heat there was just terrible. Absolutely unbearable. People do not venture out much in the afternoons
